MK7 Golf R Tuned With EQT Turbocharger

January 08, 2021 Emmanuele Design

8 January 2021 - The MK7 Golf R is a potent car in stock form, offering 292 horsepower from its 2.0L turbocharged engine. With some bolt-on modifications, this car is capable of 400+ horsepower while still utilizing the factory IS38 turbocharger. For those wanting even more power beyond that, upgraded turbochargers such as the EQT Vortex are available. This is considered a "hybrid" turbocharger, meaning that it fits in the factory footprint while using bored out housings to suit larger compressor and turbine wheels. The benefit to this is that you are able to use existing intake, exhaust and oil/coolant lines, while being able to make more power than can be expected with a factory IS38 turbocharger.

In addition to the turbocharger, this car has the following supporting modifications:

 - Upgraded intercooler

 - Upgraded intake

 - Upgraded exhaust

 - Multiport injection with 980cc injectors

 - RS3 low pressure fuel pump

 - AEM 5 BAR map sensor

With the parts on the car, it was custom tuned on our Mustang AWD dyno by our partners at Stertman Motorsport. Using E85 as the fuel source, we we able to dial in the ECU & DSG tuning to a final power output of 549 horsepower and 470 lb. ft of torque! As this car is running stock engine internals, the power is limited on this setup.

Performance metrics came in at:

0-60 MPH: 3.5 Seconds

1/4 Mile: 11.20@127.18 MPH

60-130 MPH: 8.20 Seconds
